| Subject: | DEP Public Notice - PUBLIC NOTICE – AVAILABILITY OF DRAFT RESTORATION PLAN AND ENVIRONMENTAL ASSESSMENT - MARION COUNTY |
PUBLIC NOTICE – AVAILABILITY OF DRAFT RESTORATION PLAN AND ENVIRONMENTAL ASSESSMENT The Fairmont Coke Works Natural Resource Trustee Council, represented by the West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection (on behalf of the State of West Virginia) and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (on behalf of the Department of the Interior), has prepared a Draft Restoration Plan and Environmental Assessment (RP/EA) proposing alternatives for restoring natural resources and compensating for losses resulting from the contamination and subsequent remedial activities of the Fairmont Coke Works/Sharon Steel Superfund Site located in Fairmont, WV. The purpose of the proposed action—to be funded by a $500,000 compensation payment as part of a Consent Decree for natural resource damages at the Site—is to restore, replace, or acquire the equivalent of natural resources injured as a result of contaminant releases from the Site. The Draft RP/EA is available for public review and comment at this time. The Trustees believe that public comment and input is critical to the success of this RP/EA and will consider all comments received from the public. Comments received by the Trustees will be addressed in the Final RP/EA and incorporated as appropriate.
